You have a gift to embrace today

Thanksgiving Day is a day when we interrupt our usual Thursday schedule, or at the very least think differently - as a country - from all the other Thursdays in the year. It’s the doorway that we all step into to bring in the holiday season. We’ve been cued: the lights along the streets are up, and the emails for Black Friday sales have loaded up our inboxes. For some, it’s a very sweet day, and for others, perhaps a little painful. For some, very busy, and for others, contemplative. Either way, it’s a remembering of something for each of us, and we learn to make Thanksgiving our own.
Today, I ask you to remember this, and I’d like for you to write this down, verbatim, on a piece of paper:
[Your Name], I love you.
Maybe carry it in your pocket and look at it every day for the rest of the year. We hold so much on our shoulders. We want, and we need, for others and for ourselves. It’s important that we do a little bit more embracing and loving. Actually a lot more.
Close your eyes and feel into your body, and notice what this feels like, in your physical body, to embrace yourself and the deep wisdom that your body holds, and to say to yourself, I love you. Don’t hold back on the feeling. Say it as if you’re saying it to someone who really needs to hear it and believe it.
It is in embracing yourself that your unique and special gifts emerge and shine. You're amazing, and you have incredible superpowers despite any narrative you can come up with. Whatever you’ve done that you’re not proud of, these simply give you pause to let your deepest values sink in. There’s deep love in that. So love yourself deeply. This love will conquer.
This is the day that carries you forward into the rest of this year. Enjoy your meals guilt free. Accept those around you, and also accept those not around you. But first, begin with yourself.
With love and gratitude for you, Savitree
